THE AUTUMN OFFERING Bassist: 'All I Know How To Do Is Play Music And Deliver Pizzas'
January 8, 2006Bassist Sean Robbins of Daytona Beach, Florida's THE AUTUMN OFFERING recently spoke to Revolver magazine about the songwriting process for the group's sophomore album, tentatively due in May via Victory Records. The group will enter Audiohammer Studios in Orlando, Florida in February with producer Jason Suecof (GOD FORBID, TRIVIUM) to begin recording the follow-up to their debut album, "Revelations of the Unsung", which is being reissued through Victory Records on January 10. The new version of "Revelations of the Unsung" will include the "Revelation" video as well as other special features. This release will also have "much better distribution," according to a posting on the band's official web site.
"Revelations of the Unsung" was originally issued through HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta's Stillborn label. Jasta also produced the effort at Planet Z studios in Massachusetts.
The following is a brief question-and-answer session Revolver conducted with Robbins:
Revolver: How's the new album going?
Sean Robbins: "We write and practice every day, and then I go to work delivering pizzas — which is a sour spot in my life — then we practice 'till 4 a.m. I have been fired from every pizza chain around here. The life of a dude in a rock band, right? We wrote 'Revelations of the Unsung' when I was 15, so our new stuff is more put together, more mature — it's shitloads of rock and roll combined with metal. If it wasn't for the band, I wouldn't have anything to live for, and I'm not being sarcastic. We either make it or die, so we're pushing our hardest with our new songs."
Revolver: Do you think THE AUTUMN OFFERING will offer you a chance to quit delivering pizzas?
Sean Robbins: "Either that or it will put me in the morgue. All I know how to do is play music and deliver pizzas. I'm fat and hairy, so I can't go into bodybuilding if music doesn't work out. [Laughs]"
Revolver: Earlier in our conversation, you referred to Daytona as "Dirtona." Why?
Sean Robbins: "We have three seasons here: hot, hotter and hell. It smells like trash, and there are only old people and tourists, bars and bums. Alcoholism is a solution for people because it is so depressing here. I started the band when I was 14, and I am 20 now, and I've been pissed off living here every day since I was born. We live at our practice space, which is my dad's radiator shop. I hate it, but I have to deal with it. It definitely fuels the war of the music that we make."
